“Week 3’s heatmap drill exposed a double-publish path our logs had never labeled.”
Flagship · 6 weeks
Signal Trace Studio
A guided path from raw plugin events to application analytics your teammates can read without a decoder ring.
What you will leave with
- A named span taxonomy for ingest, transform, and fan-out stages
- Latency heatmaps tied to plugin hook families
- An error-budget sketch you can defend in a release review
- A one-page Observability Atlas for your team wiki
Honest limitation
This studio does not certify proprietary vendor consoles. We stay tool-agnostic on purpose; you adapt queries to whatever stack your company already runs.
Modules
- Week 1 — Pipeline anatomy Map plugin stages, failure modes, and the difference between product metrics and pipeline health.
- Week 2 — Span literacy Write consistent span names, attributes, and baggage that survive multi-plugin hops.
- Week 3 — Latency heatmaps Build and interpret heatmaps that reveal retry storms and cold-start tails.
- Week 4 — Budgets & hooks Connect deploy hooks to error budgets without drowning Slack.
- Week 5 — Incident calm Practice annotated triage using baselines instead of gut feel.
- Week 6 — Atlas publish Package your Observability Atlas and present it to a peer cohort.

Learner notes
“Office hours ran long when my dataset was messy — still, the Atlas template is taped beside my monitor.”
FAQ
Do I need OpenTelemetry experience?
Helpful but not required. Week 2 covers span literacy from first principles using our sample plugin pipeline.
Is there a certificate?
You receive a studio completion letter and your published Atlas. We do not sell third-party certifications.
What is a real limitation of this course?
Labs run on curated datasets. Extremely proprietary plugin runtimes may need extra translation work after the cohort ends — we coach that translation, but we cannot ship your private binaries into class.
Can my whole team join?
Yes. Pipeline Cohort and Observatory Desk tiers on the pricing page describe multi-seat options.
